Zimbabwe's capital Harare is facing an unprecedented increase in urban
population that will pose new challenges in terms of water, housing and
infrastructure.
This is mainly because jobs opportunities in the capital are way better compared to in other cities. Most companies are located in Harare and this is causing people to go to Harare in search for greener pastures.
Personally l want to believe that the reason why the number of people in Harare is rapidly increasing is that the system in Zimbabwe centralises all the resources to Harare and people who are coming in from other provinces and areas just need to access those resources and are seeking employment and opportunities.
Its hard for most people to get employment in different provinces and instead, companies in those provinces like Bulawayo tend to hire people from Harare who are believed to have more experience and knowledge. People in those certain provinces are left with no choice but to settle for low paying jobs which are in Harare.
Also, most events are held in Harare and all the international celebs who come to the country end in the capital city. I mean who would not want to see Chris Brown if he is said to be in Harare.
We will then go and occupy the little space in Harare and over crowd the place. If all the good paying jobs, good schools are in Harare its inevitable for us to stay in our own cities. The government must make a plan to equalize jobs in all the provinces to avoid population growth in one city.
